Preliminary reports say the patrol car\u2019s flashing lights and siren were not in use at the time of the accident.State police say that a 24-year-old trooper was on duty on a Friday night around 9 p.m., responding to the report of a burglary. The six-year state police veteran had driven onto Shopping Center Drive from Route 50.The pedestrian, a 29-year-old Delaware woman, was reportedly standing in a lane of travel when she was hit by the patrol car. She died at the scene of the car accident.A 20-year-old male witness to the fatality told authorities that he had been with the accident victim shortly before her death. The two had been waiting for a ride and were sitting on a wall near the road. The woman borrowed hers friend\u2019s cellphone and moved away from the wall before she was hit by the patrol car.The state police trooper and a passenger in the patrol car both sustained minor injuries in the crash.State police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly pedestrian accident.
