On October 2, 2021, the Maryland Association for Justice awarded the Civil Rights and Constitutional Law Section the Outstanding Service Award for its commitment to keeping Maryland safer. In 2021, Larry Greenberg and other committee members worked tirelessly with legislators to advocate for laws that protect citizens, save lives, and provide systemic change. As a result, the historic Maryland Police Accountability Act of 2021 was passed over Governor Hogan’s veto. Hopefully, it will make Maryland safer and increase community relationships, public confidence, and transparency that has been lacking for many years.
Larry also had the privilege of accepting the Simon K. Walton Civil Justice Award on behalf of his clients, Makia Smith, Nicole and Daquan Wallace, and Richard Deans. They each were victims of civil rights violations. This award is given yearly to people who were injured as a result of others’ misconduct. Through their advocacy in Annapolis during the 2021 session, the recipients demonstrated compassion and commitment to keeping Maryland families safe by holding those at fault accountable.
