Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Greenberg.
Hi Larry, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I knew I wanted to be a lawyer ever since I was 12 years old. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, being a voice for those that otherwise would not be properly heard. I watched my father, who was an accomplished trial attorney, help those who had been injured as a result of someone else’s negligence, and amazed by his skills. I knew I wanted to join him and carry on his legacy. I joined his firm in law school, which included my mother as the office manager and my brother who is also an attorney, and it has been a roller coaster ride ever since. Every day I help those injured by others, whether by medical malpractice, a car crash, or a violation of their civil rights. I also defend those charged with crimes because I understand the devastating effects that incarceration and a permanent criminal record can have on a person’s life. Regardless of the type of case, I implement strategies to ensure justice for my clients. The best part is that some of our clients have become friends, like family. While my parents have retired and my brother has his own firm, my wife, Michele, is now the office manager, and we have surrounded ourselves with a great team. I am also thrilled that my son enjoys the law as much as I do, and he is now in his second year of law school at the University of Baltimore. My daughter has taken her passion for helping others in a different direction, working for a hospital in New York City. We also take our two dogs to work daily, bringing joy to all.
I also give back to the community daily. When not in court, I am an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law, teaching students how to try cases. I am a past president of the Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ) and a member of numerous bar associations, helping to ensure the professional development of attorneys.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The practice of law is full of struggles. Similar to football, almost everyone is trying to knock your block off. One of the biggest challenges I face in my career is that Maryland law limits how much money an injured person can receive, regardless of their injuries and damages.These caps provide a safety net for big corporations and government entities from ever having to be fully responsible for their negligence, depriving victims of full compensation for what was taken from them.
Another major issue are the delays in the justice system, which were only worsened by the Covid pandemic. Time and time again, insurance companies are requesting postponements, only further denying justice for our clients.
