Maryland boy suffering from cerebral palsy awarded $55 million

A Maryland jury found John Hopkins Hospital liable for birth injuries suffered by a young boy. The jury returned a verdict of $55 million. Medical malpractice on the part of the doctor and hospital staff was thought to have led to the boy suffering from cerebral palsy.

It is possible that delays by the hospital in treating the boy’s mother while she was in labor led to deprivation of oxygen for this child. The boy’s mother may have had to wait as much as two hours while the hospital tried to decipher results of blood tests.
